Wings Within: the irresistible call of the wild

L’appel du large is the irresistible call of the wild, at the horizon of our wildest dreams. Maak los! Set sails! Amsterdam knows it in its docks, in its moorings, in its stones, having been both a sanctuary and a port-of-calls. But today’s music isn’t a glimpse of exotic land to conquer, we’ve learned there were no empty lands, only otherness seeking and confronting otherness on the other side of the globe. No terra incognita, but for the depth of our dreams: the call of the wild comes from within.

It has to draw the attention, with something out of the ordinary, and then awake from its slumber the ferment of our imagination. This mechanism relies on one of the oldest receptacles of human art and myth-making: the chimera, the hybrid of two known beings into a third, unknown, riveting, fascinating.

We invite the Lamassus of Nineveh and the Sphinx of Gizeh for an afternoon tea, they all represent the surreal and seamless mark of creation, that the Surrealists would carry all the way into drawing their cadavre-exquis: the head, the torso and the feet or tail thrown into a captivating cocktail. And so we need a new metamorphosis, to ride a new form of Pegasus.

In this minimalist Wunderkammer, only a few treasures emerge thanks to a precise lighting, the horse is the core, a galop, a momentum ready to burst free. But artisanat, craftmanship, heightens the material in presence. It infuses mane with dreams, thread with shape, metal with imprints and monograms. We only need to equip them, these magical items, and the quest would instantly begin. This saddle would spirit us away for a Winter-Reise unlike any other, where music is always in the air.

Journey inward, into the dreams yet to come. Braving unknown trials to unknown delights.
