Sagarminaga Atelier: the foundations of our journey

Craftsmanship. A profession that conjures up images of excellence and the exquisite meticulousness of manual savoir-faire. Three years ago, we started designing our first handcrafted pieces. At the foundations of any business initiative, there are always personal motivations that predict its creation, and the birth of the Sagarminaga Atelier is no exception to this rule.

Among all the careers open to her, Gabriela, who came from the fashion design and marketing sector, visualized a canvas of expression in craftsmanship. Typically, a passion for this prestigious activity is a legacy that is passed down from one generation to the next. This is not the case in this atelier.

On the contrary, it was the meanings that this work carries and the ability to create a future of respect for this great cultural tradition that sparked Gabriela's interest and passion. What drove this company was the ability of this profession - and its products - to convey sensations, to talk about culture and tradition, to create links between past and present, between people and their environments.

Undoubtedly, our activity could be described in purely materialistic terms -to use vegetable fibers to transform spaces into natural landscapes that provide sensations of well-being to their owners-. But in this design, art and craft project we sought to transcend the functionality of this idea to discover ways of telling stories, of pursuing beauty and aesthetics ideals, and sustainable development through crafts.

Through the design and production of its pieces, Gabriela seeks to combine the power of imagination to design the sketches of her products with the manipulation of materials to transform her clients' concepts into tangible reality. She also seeks to combine a balance between body and mind as a form of personal well-being.

For us, products are more than decorative objects that are distributed in interior spaces. These speak of the people who inhabit the interiors, of the decoration choices they have made as a result of their individuality and their unique vision of the world. We began to design tailored products so that the pieces abandon their tangible functionality and acquire more depth, serving as a form of expression and feeling between each of the people who participate in the spaces they enrich. In a sense, we wanted there to be a two-way transfer of messages and identities between these and their spaces.

Forged in our canons of beauty, our pieces become a way of expressing our aesthetic world.

These ideas mark the beginning and the process of evolution of Sagarminaga Atelier. This is us.
