Botafumeiro Steakhouse

The Galician roots of this restaurant, located in the town of Durango, define not only its cuisine but also its interior design, the work of the team at Lázaro Studio, with whom we collaborated to create a suspended ceiling made of plant fibers dyed black.

‍

The owners of the venue wanted to revamp the look of their space to mark a new chapter in the business. The idea was to create a fresh aesthetic that would still capture the spirit of Galicia. Lázaro Studio reflected on the close connection between this region and the traditional craft of working with plant fibers. That’s when Sagarminaga Atelier came into the picture…

"We designed a suspended ceiling that tells the story of the strong connection between Galicia and the craftsmanship of natural fibers."

On the one hand, they needed to reflect Galician artisanal culture within the establishment, and on the other, they needed to create an innovative image in keeping with the novel dining experience. At our studio, we designed a large-format piece—measuring nearly 20 square meters—made from plant fibers that were dyed black.

In our quest for something different, we created this handcrafted panel featuring a striking geometric pattern and finished it in a glossy black to give the space a more contemporary look. This piece was installed on the ceiling as a suspended ceiling and is illuminated by indirect light from spotlights. In addition, this massive decorative piece helped dampen sound, thanks to its concave shape and its perforated wooden base, which has been lined with sound-absorbing material.
