Ladies and Gentlemen: IBIS Zumaia Hotel
IBIS Zumaia Hotel, Spain

For the Ibis Zumaia hotel, at Sagarminaga Atelier we drew inspiration from the stories and traditions of our region to bring the region’s cultural narrative into a contemporary space.
Inspired by the stories, symbols, and traditions deeply rooted in our culture and region, at Sagarminaga Atelier we created Jentilak, a piece that reinterprets local mythology as a gesture of welcome.
The work seeks to evoke a clear emotion: a point of connection between the traveler and the place, where cultural heritage becomes the starting point for the experience of arrival.

Narrative and Spatial Integration
Translating this mythological tale into a three-dimensional structure required a focused approach to scale, height, and proportion. The scuplture was conceived as a welcoming element within a hotel setting, where form and structure play a decisive role in the perception of space.
The design process focused on striking a balance between presence and lightness: a form capable of inhabiting the space with its own identity without overwhelming it, while always maintaining a clear, open, and welcoming appearance.

Through Jentilak, the studio continues to explore the convergence between cultural narrative and spatial experience, transforming the story into a three-dimensional experience.
Every project begins with a conversation.
