Headboards at the Hotel Salino

The hotel’s redesigned interior captures the essence of the island of Mallorca, where it is located. The design, the work of interior designer Marisa Clar, is inspired by the light and colors that bathe this Mediterranean landscape. On this occasion, Sagarminaga Atelier participated in the interior design project by creating a key element: the headboards for all the bedrooms, crafted from plant fiber—a material that is undoubtedly the common thread running through the entire project. It was a challenge that excited us from the very first day the hotel’s designer contacted us.

The headboards were meant to blend seamlessly with the natural style that defines the rooms, evoking the serenity and untamed spirit of the island. The interior designer wanted to find a functional piece that would, at the same time, stand out from the rest as if it were a work of art. So, we proposed a canvas made of esparto grass, a material widely used in Mallorca that recalls traditional decor featuring natural fibers. It’s a craft that we’ve reinterpreted with a modern and precise design.

"Canvas panels framing the hotel beds to showcase the island of Mallorca's artisanal traditions through esparto grass."

‍

We created a total of 38 headboards in three different styles that tell, through the language of natural fibers, the story of the craftsmanship of this wonderful land. All of them are mounted on wooden headboards, making the sleeping area the focal point of each room. They measure 160 x 80 cm and are the result of careful, meticulous work that blends artisanal inspiration with the studio’s own digital techniques.

In addition to the headboards, the designer set us a greater challenge: to capture the essence of the Port of Sóller—one of the island’s most iconic sites—in a large mural that would envelop visitors as they entered the hotel lobby. Thus was born the Port of Sóller Mural, a work that depicts the rolling waves of the sea and the steadfastness of the surrounding mountains.
